In accordance with instructions contained

ia 0. 0. Despatch Circular of the 31st. May, 1897, I have the honour to submit the enclosed return of all whippings inflicted in this Gaol during the year 1900.

The instrument used was the birch exceot in one instance of assault on two orison officers when the Cat-O'- Nine-Pails was used..

Phe total number of whippings inflicted by the Assistant Superintendent was 5, while 2 were inflicted by the sane Officer in conjunction with a Visiting Justice.

Discipline in the gaol as well maintained.
